Since we have sent our Gruffalo's child off to Beirut in Lebanon, we decided to make some food from Lebanon. We are also learning about procedural writing so we thought it would be cool to write some instructions for how to make yummy hummus. It is made from chickpeas and tahini and lots of us had never heard of them. We thought that they smelt like peanut butter and cat food!
Mrs Rivett helped us to drain the chickpeas and then we added garlic and tahini. We blended up the mixture and then tasted it on some yummy garlic pita bread. Pita bread also comes from Lebanon and the Middle East so this was the perfect combination! Most of us really liked the taste. Yum!

Westpac Helicopter Visit
Today the Westpac helicopter visited our school. Jerome Kaino, the awesome All Black, also came in the helicopter. We sang the song, "You Can Count On Me" and the pilot and passengers listened to us. It was really cool when the wind from the chopper whipped around us!

Diligence
Our class have been thinking about what it means to be DILIGENT. We brainstormed the word and thought about examples of what we do that shows diligence.
Here are our ideas:
We are DILIGENT when we persist in what we are doing even when it is hard.
We are DILIGENT when we are truly hard-working and strive to complete work that shows the BEST that we can do.
In Room 14, we are really thinking about us being diligent and demonstrating hard-work and perseverance.

The Art Gallery
Yesterday our class went to the Auckland Art Gallery. It was awesome! We saw a whole room filled with activities and colourful artworks just for kids - it was all by Reuben Paterson, who is a contemporary New Zealand artist. We played with Kaleidoscopes and messed with xBox interactions and had an awesome time! Then we did a wonderful tour of the gallery and visited the NZ section, where we were able to look at old paintings that tell what it was like in NZ hundreds of years ago.
What a great day!
